Submission Documents: By Councillor Martha Wardrop:- "Council acknowledges that Glasgow has Carnegie libraries built with money donated by the Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. A total of 2,509 Carnegie libraries were built across the world and these included libraries at Kinning Park, Govan, Crosshill, Anderston, Townhead, Kingston, Hutchesontown, Maryhill, Parkhead, Woodside, Langside, Bridgeton and Dennistoun. Council notes that Andrew Carnegie was granted freedom of the City in 1905 for his support of the City's libraries. It is recognised that as part of his legacy, the eight remaining Carnegie Library buildings, six of which are still functioning libraries, should be celebrated as part of "A Vision for Glasgow LIbraries" Strategy. Council agrees to support a project ot celebrate the legacy of Andrew Carnegie, and that this would be developed through a partnership with heritage groups, and community councils, and be promoted as part of National Libraries Day on 16th February 2017."
