Andrew was the son of Mr James Duncan, 33 Carlyle Drive, Cardonald, Glasgow.

He was a pupil at Bellahouston Academy till 1912, when he removed to Cardiff where he finished his education.

At the age of 18 he joined the Royal Air Force as a Cadet and was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. At the end of June 1918 he was sent to France but in less than four months he was admitted to hospital suffering from blood poisoning cause by barbed wire.

He did not recover from blood poisoning and died at Wimereux, France, on the 21st October 1918 at the age of 19.
