A £5.827million contract to deliver one of the next phases - the Argyle Street West Avenue - of the Glasgow City Region City Deal Avenues programme has now been awarded to Rainton Construction (Scotland) Ltd after an open tender process that saw five final submissions considered.

A Glasgow City Council committee today (1 February) approved the disposal of land, former childcare unit and a car park to a developer and local housing associations - a decision that will bring more than 80 new homes to the city.

Glasgow City Council will make a compulsory purchase of three flats - in Easterhouse, Govanhill and Yorkhill - and transfer them to housing associations who will make them available as socially-rented homes for homeless people or families.

Glasgow's top official, Annemarie O'Donnell, will leave the City Council later this year.
