This page lists all our free health, wellbeing, equality and diversity training available for staff - along with other health and wellbeing events you can take part in. You can have a look at what's available each month by scrolling down each section.  Past training and event information is still available to view in the related content section at the bottom of the page.

To register to attend please just click the sign-up link provided. 

We work in partnership with several providers to deliver our training - so it could be delivered online or in person. Please check the details when registering.  All training courses delivered meet our Equality Outcomes, Healthy Working Lives programme and Health and Wellbeing initiatives.

Autumn Step Count Challenge - free places, still time to register!

The council is taking part in this year's national Autumn Step Count Challenge, run by Paths for All. The Challenge will run for 4 weeks, and we are supporting up to 20 teams, of up to 5 members per team, to take part for free!

Get a team of five together and join us for this year's autumn Step Count Challenge, beginning on Monday 4 November. Ditch the desk at lunchtime, connect with your colleagues, and be in with a chance of winning prizes with Paths for All.

Talk Money Week - Do One Thing: Masterclass

Society typically considers it taboo to talk about finances, making it difficult to ask for help.

As part of Talk Money Week, our resident money experts, Audrey Laing (Money Matters) & Tony Quinn (GEMAP), will lead two interactive masterclasses, helping you build money conversations into your everyday life to give you the confidence to talk to others about money.

By the end of the session, you will come away with your own personal money toolkit, practical examples that you can share with others and a deeper understanding of the work happening on the re-design of the financial inclusion sector.

This information session is arranged by our colleagues in the GG&C NHS Employment & Health Team as part of the Healthy Working Lives Programme. Learn from the experts what you can do to reduce the risk of cancer and detecting it early. Find out about the cancer screening programmes available in Scotland, get answers to any questions you may have, and where you can find further advice and support if you have any concerns.

Financial Wellbeing Webinar - Age Scotland

This session looks at simple ways to help you streamline your finances and discusses what you can do to minimise your outgoings and maximise your savings.

The session is based on feedback from 4,000 people who have attended retirement planning workshops with Age Scotland and shares the things that they say they with they had known 10-20 years earlier.

Financial Wellbeing Workshop - Cost of living, energy and support

Money Advice Scotland

In this workshop, Money Advice Scotland will aim to help participants understand the context of the crisis and how it has affected the price of the energy we use.

We will look at some energy saving tips and provide information on the support available if you are struggling with energy debt.

Seated Acupressure Massage - Incorporate Massage

Discover the wellbeing benefits that can be gained from taking time out of your busy day to relax with a 15 minute (fully clothed) seated acupressure massage. The massage uses Swedish Massage Techniques and includes head, neck, shoulders, back, hands and arms, to help reduce stress.

  • Booked sessions take place, with Grace Taylor from Incorporate Massage, in the privacy of our City Chambers Wellbeing Room at 2.25 East Building - John Street.
  • Your session costs £15 for 15 minutes - please pay Grace on the day.
  • 8 available morning slots - every 15 minutes from 10am to 12noon
  • 8 available afternoon slots - every 15 minutes from 12.30 to 2.30pm
  • Booking conditions apply and 24 hrs notice required for cancellations (or you may still be charged).

NEW - Managing Employees with Long Term Conditions

This face to face session is arranged by our colleagues in the GG&C NHS Employment & Health Team as part of the Healthy Working Lives Programme.

Suitable for managers and HR to raise awareness of long-term health conditions, and understand the impact of these in the workplace. The session will cover both legislation and best practice in managing employees with long term conditions and be made aware of some of the risks in not managing the process correctly.

NEW - Mentally Healthy Workplaces Line Manager Training

The way people are managed on a day to day basis is central to their mental wellbeing and engagement, as well as trust in their employer. A supportive manager is crucial in supporting wellbeing, spotting early signs of distress, and initiating early intervention. This course has been designed by Public Health Scotland to:

  • identify the key factors that contribute to mentally healthy workplaces
  • give managers a broad understanding of mental health in the workplace
  • ensure managers are aware of their responsibilities in relation to health and wellbeing
  • improve managers skills and confidence in dealing with mental health in the workplace

LGBT Awareness session 

The session is designed to help employees gain a greater level of understanding and confidence and be less afraid of getting things wrong when interacting with or supporting LGBT+ people.

This course is suitable for any employees seeking to develop their knowledge and skills in this area and will explore:

  • LGBT+ terminology and definitions
  • social attitudes and experiences of discrimination faced by LGBT+ people
  • LGBT+ equality and inclusion good practice.

Race Awareness for Managers - CEMVO

In partnership with CEMVO this course aims to provide managers with  the skills and confidence to challenge racism when encountered in work and life. It also raises awareness of the relevant legislation - to address racism both in relation to discrimination and hate crime
