Applying for a Licence: Right to Work Check
The Immigration Act 2016 places a statutory duty on the Council, as Licensing Authority for Glasgow, to check and verify that applicants for certain types of licence have the right to live and work in the UK.
From 1 December 2016, the Council will be carrying out right to work checks on all applicants for Taxi Driver's and Private Hire Car Driver's Licences. The relevant guidance notes and application forms have been updated to reflect the new requirements.
From 22 January 2018 the Council will be carrying out right to work checks on any person who applies for a Booking Office Licence.
The Home Office has indicated that the requirement to undertake Right to Work checks will be extended in the near future to other licensing schemes such as Late Hours Catering as well as Premises and Personal Licences issued under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.
