West of Scotland Archaeology Service (WOSAS)

What is it?

West of Scotland Archaeology Service was set up in 1997 as a joint committee of 12 local authorities in the region.  It is currently funded by the 12 local authorities and by Historic Scotland for specific projects.  Its primary purpose is to provide planning related archaeological advice to its members, permitting them to discharge their duties in respect of Scottish Government planning guidance for the treatment of archaeological remains in the planning process.  They have not been consolidated into our group annual accounts as they are considered immaterial to the understanding of the accounts.
