Notes for Application Form for Grant or Renewal of Taxi Licence

  1. Any person who in or in connection with the making of this application makes any statement which he knows to be false or recklessly makes any statement which is false in a material particular shall be guilty of an offence and liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding level four on the standard scale.
  2. Glasgow City Council operates a policy for the minimum criteria of vehicles to be licensed.  Any proposed vehicle must be of a make and model approved by the Licensing Authority.  The criteria are that the vehicle must have M1 whole vehicle type approval; must be of an approved type (see note C below); the minimum engine power output is 73 bhp (brake horsepower) [equivalent to 74PS (pferdestarke) or 54.4 kW (kilowatts)]; the minimum width of the back seat is 48"/122cm; and the vehicle has a minimum of four doors.
  3. Before applying for a taxi licence please consult with the Licensing Section to ensure that the vehicle you propose to use for taxi purposes is of an approved type.
  4. If this application is for the grant of a licence it must be accompanied by the registration document for the vehicle concerned.
  5. If this application is for the renewal of a licence it must be accompanied by the registration document and certificate of insurance (covering taxi/public hire car use) for the vehicle concerned.

Alternatively you can also call at any police office and pick up the appropriate Data Protection Form, requesting 'subject access' to your record.
  7. Glasgow City Council operates a Limitation of Taxi Licences Policy. As such there will be a rebuttable presumption against the grant of further Taxi Car Licences.  The full Limitation of Taxi Licences Policy can be found here.
