Pollokshaws (formerly Shawbridge) is currently undergoing a radical transformation.
In 2013 Anderson Bell & Christie Architects completed a masterplan exercise which outlined plans for the provision of 450 new mixed tenure homes in addition to commercial and community spaces.
First Phase
An early phase of redevelopment providing 93 flats for social rent has already been completed by Glasgow Housing Association (GHA).
GHA have completed the refurbishment of two low-rise tenemental blocks which provided forty flats for mid-market rent, funded via the Scottish Government's Greener Homes Initiative.
Demolition of the three remaining multi-storey blocks and the shopping arcade on Shawbridge Street is complete. This ends the clearance programme.
Next Phase
The next phase of development will be a further 47 new-build flats for social rent by GHA coming off site in early 2017. This completes the reprovisioning process. Loretto Housing Association has also put forward proposals for 35 dwellings for social rent in two blocks along Shawbridge Street..Moving forward, there will be six phases of development with the private sector providing predominantly 350 houses for sale suitable for family living. Construction should start on these in late 2017.
