Cycle Lane Improvements for Corkerhill to Encourage Active Travel

Published: 14 September 2020

Overview

Existing cycle lanes on Corkerhill Road are set to benefit from the installation of soft segregation as part of our Spaces for People programme which is providing additional space for physical distancing to help suppress a resurgence of COVID-19.

The cycle lanes which run in both directions on Corkerhill Road will see soft segregation fitted where possible on stretches between Linthaugh Road and Aros Drive.

Active Travel

These measures aim to increase the practicality and attractiveness of active travel for everyday journeys, especially commuting, and encourage those who haven't previously considered cycling to give it a go. They will also discourage vehicles from parking in the cycle lanes, leaving them free for cycling as intended.

Spaces for People

Supported by funding from the Scottish Government and administered by Sustrans ScotlandSpaces for People will see temporary infrastructure measures introduced across Glasgow to provide extra space for people to walk, wheel or cycle as COVID-19 restrictions remain in place.

Under the Spaces for People programme, we have created temporary pop-up cycle lanes at BroomielawDumbreck Road, London Road (Phase 1 and Phase 2), Great Western Road (Duntreath Avenue to Lincoln Avenue)Gorbals StreetCumbernauld RoadProvanmill RoadHawthorn Street and Bilsland Drive - with many more planned for the future.
