Procedure for Inspection of Vehicle for Grant of Licence

Before presenting the vehicle for inspection you will require to:

  • telephone the Inspection Centre Booking Line for an appointment on 0141 287 3326 between the hours of 8.00am - 8.00pm Monday to Sunday (except public and bank holidays).  Please note that you will require to quote your system reference number (detailed on your letter) and the type of inspection you require;
  • have the engine and underside of the vehicle thoroughly cleaned;
  • have a fire extinguisher of an approved type (constructed in compliance with BSEN 3-5 1996 and maintained as per BS 50306 part 3 1985) fitted in the vehicle; and
  • remove all seat covers.

When you arrive at the Inspection Centre, Motor Transport Section, Land and Environmental Services, 425 Polmadie Road, Glasgow G42 0PJ (to enter the Inspection Centre, turn left before the weigh bridge and follow the signs on the road) you must pay the inspection fee of £45 and produce the relevant letter from the Licensing Section to the Examiner.

If the vehicle passes inspection you will be issued with a pass certificate and in the case of a dual test an MOT Certificate for which an additional fee of £20.00 is payable at the Inspection Centre.

If the vehicle fails inspection you will be given a certificate to that effect and the vehicle should be presented for re-testing at the Inspection Centre within 14 days.  A fee of £30.00 is payable at the Inspection Centre for this purpose.

Please note that should you fail to attend for your inspection appointment without having given the Inspection Centre at least one full working day's notice an additional charge of £45.00 will be made by the Inspection Centre.

Within 5 working days of the date of the vehicle passing inspection (this includes the day the vehicle is inspected) you must produce the following items to the Licensing Section, City Chambers, 235 George Street, Glasgow:-

(i)           Inspection Pass Certificate;
(ii)          Insurance Certificate (covering taxi/public hire use); and
(iii)         Registration Document (if not available please provide an explanation in writing).

Please note that these documents must be in either (a) the name of the applicant, or if the applicant is a non-natural person ie. a registered company or partnership, in that name or (b) in the name of the person named as the day to day manager or (c) in the name of allthe named directors/partners etc. "trading as" the applicant.

Please also note that if the aforementioned documents are not produced on time it is likely that the vehicle will require to undergo a further inspection at your expense. Receipts to show that documents have been produced are available on request.
