Seven Lochs Wetland Park Hosts Lake Protection Conference

The Seven Lochs Wetland Park will host delegates from the UK and Ireland Lakes Network (UKILN) when their annual conference visits Glasgow next month (October).

The Seven Lochs Wetland Park will host delegates from the UK and Ireland Lakes Network (UKILN) when their annual conference visits Glasgow on October 10th and 11th. UKILN is a charitable trust which brings together people and organisations working to improve the management of lakes and lochs through a whole catchment approach. This year's conference will share experience and expertise from across the UK and beyond on the topic of Urgency, Innovation and Collaboration for our Lakes, Lochs and Wetlands.

CEO of the Global Nature Fund, Udo Gattenlöhner, will be a keynote speaker. Based in Lake Constance, Germany, Mr Gattenlohner will share insights on the strategic movement for global lake protection. 

On Tues October 10th, conference delegates will visit sites in the Seven Lochs Wetland Park and Strathclyde Country Park to look at how project partners are delivering nature restoration, visitor engagement and climate resilience through the management of lochs and wetlands. Hogganfield Loch and the new £12million Golf It visitor attraction in Cumbernauld Road, Glasgow, are among the highlights.

The following day the conference will move to Strathclyde University's Technology and Innovation Centre - where delegates will hear about new innovative approaches and tools to help address challenges posed by the climate and nature emergencies.

Glasgow Strategic Drainage Partnership will also give a presentation on Sustainable Urban Drainage, detailing how water management can unlock additional benefits like new accessible greenspace and habitat creation. Nature Scot and the Love Windermere Partnership will also discuss funding opportunities for lakes and implementing nature-based solutions, alongside presentations on collaborative and novel lake management methods.
