Dow, Samuel Hugh (1878 - 1916)

Samuel was the second son Mr Samuel Dow, Braerannoch, Bellahouston, Glasgow.

Mr Dow held the Degrees of M.A. and L.L.B. of Glasgow University. He was a partner of the firm of D.M. Hutchison & Dow, writers, Glasgow and was a member of the Faculty of Procurators. He was well known as a tennis player in the West of Scotland.

Enlisting as a private in the 17th Highland Light Infantry in September 1914, he received his commission in February 1915 and was on active service for exactly a year when he was slightly wounded in July 1916. On his recovery he returned to France in October of that year.

He was killed in action on 30th December 1916. Second Lieutenant Dow was 38 years of age.
