John M Anderson was a private serving with the 16th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action at the Battle of the Somme on the 4 January 1916. The 16th Battalion Highland Light Infantry was one of the three Glasgow Pals Battalions set up in September 1914. Their original name was the 'Glasgow Boys' Brigade Battalion' as most of their original recruits were former members of the Boys' Brigade.
