George Arnott service in the 16th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry which was originally known as the Glasgow Boys' Brigage Battalion. This was one of three volunteer battalions in response to the call for army recruits to go to war by Lord Horatio Kitchener. Most of the original recruits of this battalion had been former members of the Boys' Brigade.
He was awarded the Victory Medal and the British Medal but not the Star, which means that he did not enter a war zone until after 31 Dec 1915. He died 1 Jul 1916 at the age of 28. Born in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, on 29 July 1888 to William Hamilton Arnott, a steel works clerk, and his wife Janet MacGowan who were married 20 September 1887 in Stirling. They lived on Hamilton Street in Motherwell but the family later lived in Glasgow and he is rememebered on the Glasgow Roll of Honour.
