James was the son of Mr George Hamilton of Dumbreck, Glasgow.
He had gone to Australia in 1911 where he was engaged in fruit farming.
In 1914 he enlisted in Australia and on coming to Europe he saw action on the unfortunate Peninsula of Gallipoli, Turkey.
He was killed in action at Anafarta, Turkey, on 8th August 1915.
