Lorimer Headley was born in Sorn, Ayrshire, in 1895, the son of John and Jessie Headley. In April 1910, when he was 14 years old, he went to work for The Royal Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Glasgow St Rollox branch.

During the First World War Headley left the bank to join the army. Second Lieutenant Lorimer Headley of the London Regiment was killed in France on 15 July 1916. He was 20 years old.
