Private Hoggan served in the Machine Gun Corps during the First World War. He died in the Battle of Cambrai and is buried at Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension in Busigny. The village of Busigny was used as a casualty clearing station in November and December 1918 as part of the intense fighting in that area.
Robert was the son of Archibald and Helen Hoggan, of 16 Bedlay Street, Springburn, Glasgow.
