Youngest son of Mr Benjamin Hutchison, M.A., Rector Emeritus of Govan High School and Mrs Hutchison, Aubert,
Cambuslang, Lanarkshire.

Deans spent all his school days in Bellahouston Academy; and was serving his apprenticeship as a dentist. Sergeant Hutchison was deservedly popular among his many friends in Bellahouston.

He enlisted in May 1915 at the early age of sixteen. He had taken part in the great Somme Battle, France, of 1916 and was expected home to train for his commission.

He was instantly killed at Beaumont Hamel, France, on the morning of 18th September 1916. He was buried at Serre, south of Albert, France. He was only 18 years of age at the time of his death.
