William was the elder son Mr James Leggat and Mrs Leggat, 2 Fleurs Avenue, Dumbreck, Glasgow.
He was in his father's business and proved a very capable business man. While at school he displayed qualities of such a high order that his fellow pupils and teachers will always hold him in great esteem.
He enlisted in the 7th Scottish Rifles at the beginning of the war in 1914 and went out with the Expeditionary Force to Gallipoli, Turkey, where he shared much heavy fighting.
He was wounded in Gallipoli, Turkey, on 28th June 1915 and succumbed to his wounds in hospital on Malta on 1st July 1915.
