Prior to enlisting Mr Logan was a teacher under the Dalserf School Board.
He enlisted in the Scottish Rifles in February 1915. He received rapid promotion and was acting Company Sergeant-Major when he received his commission seven months later in the same regiment. He was lecturing in musketry at Ripon when he volunteered for active service and was subsequently attached to the South Staffords.
While leading his men at Bienvillers, France, through a heavy German barrage to the relief of another platoon on 13th December 1916 he was hit by a shell and killed almost instantaneously.
