Private Alexander Black was born on 21 December, 1893 to Alexander and Mary Black nee Thom in Glasgow, although his birth was registered in Cumbernauld by his aunt.
He joined the 9 Battalion, Highland Light Infantry (Glasgow Highlanders) and was killed in action during the attack at High Wood on 15 July, 1916. He was only 22. He is buried at Delville Wood Cemetery, Longueval.
