John was the only son of Mr and Mrs John Clements, 238 Paisley Road West, Glasgow.
He left Bellahouston Academy in 1910 to complete his training as a teacher. In 1914 he was on the staff of Annfield Public School, Glasgow, which he left on 8th September. He was a bright and promising teacher, highly esteemed by all his colleagues.
He joined the 6th Camerons on 8th September 1914. After training at Aldershot he went to France in June 1915 where he saw much hard service during the following months, including the Battle of Loos, France in September 1915.
On May 14th, 1916, he was killed by a trench mortar while on observation duty at Vermelles near Loos, France. Corporal Clements was 27 years of age.
