Frank Joseph Aloysius Conway was born on 4th April 1892. After a successful early education he went up to the University of Glasgow in the autumn of 1910 to study for an Arts degree. His father, James, was at that time a pawnbroker, and the family home was at 2 Westercraigs, Dennistoun. Frank made good progress in the first two years of his studies. He took Latin and French in his first year, Higher Latin and Geography in his second, passing all exams at first attempt.

In his third, and what would have been his final year in 1912-1913, he took Moral Philosophy and Constitutional Law and History, perhaps anticipating a career in law already. Things did not go so smoothly thereafter, and although he had managed to pass his Constitutional Law exam a few weeks after the outbreak of war, he left to join the army before completing his degree, a pass in Moral Philosophy having eluded him. He enlisted in the 17th Highland Light Infantry and went to serve his country.

Frank survived the war and like many young men, returned to his studies. He added Roman Law to his list of passes, and graduated MA in 1920. In the 1920s he settled to the practice of law and lived at 28 Westland Drive. He died on 13th May 1947. His brother James was a Glasgow medical graduate (1911). He served in the RAMC during the war and was Mentioned in Despatches (MID)
