John Cranston

John was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs John Cranston, Crosslea, Dumbreck,Glasgow.

He was cashier with Messrs J.P. Kinghorn & Co., Mitchell Street, Glasgow. Lieutenant Cranston, who was described as "an energetic and capable officer and entirely regardless of self".

He joined the 9th Highland Light Infantry on 2nd September 1914.

He left for France after two months training and was wounded in the trenches at Givenchy, Fance, on the last day of the year. After his recovery he received a commission in another Battalion of the same regiment. He returned to France in January 1916.

He was killed at Bois de Foureaux (High Wood), France, early in the morning of 15th July 1916, while trying to get some wounded men.
