Ralston, W. John 1927 (1895 - 1915)
Private, 6th Bn. Highland Light Infantry
Buried at Helles Memorial
Commemorated at Hillhead High School
These two brothers (see A. Ralston) were killed on the same day, the 12th July, 1915, during the attack on the Turkish positions in front of Achi Baba. They were at first reported wounded and missing, but confirmation of their death was obtained later.
They were prominent and popular members of the Rugby Club, which had a third brother, J. R. Ralston, as one of the team. The captain of their company paid a high tribute to their unfailing good spirits, their willing service, and their splendid endurance. "They always played the game."
The heartfelt sympathy of the School goes out to their parents, who have been thus doubly bereaved.
"In death they were not divided."
