Ross, Hugh McLean 4379 (1897 - 1916)

Hugh McLean Ross was born on 8 January 1897, the son of Joseph Ross, head messenger of Commercial Bank of Scotland in Glasgow. In April 1912, when he was 15 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Glasgow Renfield Street branch. He became a clerk there in April 1915.

During the First World War Ross left the bank to join the army, becoming a Lance Corporal in the Highland Light Infantry. He died on 2 November 1916 of wounds received in action on the Somme. He was 19 years old.
