James resided with his parents at 12 Cunningham Street, North Cote, Melbourne.
He went to Australia in the summer of 1914. He held a good position in the firm of Messrs Foy & Gibson.
He enlisted in September 1915. After a short time he was sent to Egypt and at the end of three months' training there, proceeded to France.
He was killed on 19th -20th July 1916 in a big trench raid south of Armentieres, France. He was in his 23rd year.
