William was the son of Mr and Mrs Ross, 22 Carmichael Street, Govan, Glasgow.
He left Bellahouston Academy in February 1915 to become an engineer apprentice with Messrs Barclay, Curle & Co., Ltd., at Finnieston.
Enlisting in February 1918 he was posted to the 2nd Highland Light Infantry but was later transferred to the 5th KingĀ“s Own Scottish Borderers. He had only been in France 4 weeks.
He was killed in action in Flanders on 2nd September 1918. Private Ross was only 18 years of age.
