Hamilton was the son of Mr Alexander Russell, "Bedford", Dumbreck, Glasgow.
He was employed on the staff of The Phosphor Bronze Company, London.
He enlisted on the 8th September 1914 and trained with the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carbineers) at Canterbury until May 1915. From May 1915 till 27th August 1918 with only two short leaves during that period, he served on the Western Front with the Guards, the Machine Gun Corps and finally in the Tank Corps.
Three days after his 30th birthday, whilst on a tank attack, he was killed in action at Monchy, France, on the 27th August 1918.
