Able Seaman John B Marlin was born in Glasgow and was the son of William and Elizabeth Marlin of 482, Cathcart Rd., Govanhill, Glasgow.
He was an able seaman with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reservce, Hood Battalion. The Hood Battalion was formed from RNV Reservists to bolster numbers on the First World War British Expeditionary Force which was fighting in France. On the Royal Navy Roll of Honour it states that Able Seaman Marlin death was as a result of illness.
He died on the 30 September 1915 and is buried in Cathcart Cemetery.
