John was one of the sons of Mr and Mrs James A. Millen, 3 Carlton Gardens, Crookston, Glasgow.

When John left school he was employed by Messrs Connal & Co.

Lance Corporal Millen joined up in the first year of the war when only 17 years of age. He saw service in France and in December 1916 he was invalided home suffering from trench foot. After four months in hospital he again joined his Battalion in France. He was seriously wounded in action near Nieuport, Belgium, on 30th August 1917.

He died in hospital at Boulogne, France, on 17th September 1917.
