The graves of 636 Sergeant (Sgt) Hugh Murray, 16th Battalion, Lance Corporal (L Cpl) James Edward Hebden Radford, 3rd Battalion and 1777 Corporal (Cpl) Kenneth Milton MacPhee, 3rd Battalion. Sgt Murray, a native of Glasgow, Scotland was a mechanical engineer from Coolgardie, WA prior to enlistment and embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Ceramic on 22 December 1914. After being wounded in action at Gallipoli, he was transferred to Floriana Hospital where, on 21 August 1915, aged 41, he died from those wounds. L Cpl Radford, a salesman from Croydon, NSW prior to enlistment, embarked with the rank of Private from Sydney on HMAT Euripides on 20 October 1914. After promotion to Lance Corporal at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action and was transferred to St Elmo Hospital, Malta where on 22 August 1915, aged 19, he died from his wounds. Cpl MacPhee, a former NSW amateur boxing champion, was a wool presser from Manly, NSW prior to enlistment and embarked with the rank of Private with the fourth Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Shropshire on 17 March 1915. Promoted to Corporal at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action and was transferred to Malta where, on 21 August 1915, aged 26, he died from his wounds. All three men are buried in the Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
