Seedhouse, Clarence Henry William 2299 ( - 1914)

Clarence Henry William Seedhouse

Private, 8th Bn. Highland Light Infantry

Buried at Welford Road Cemetery, Leicester

Commemorated at Bellahouston Academy Roll of Honour

Clarence was the son of Mr and Mrs E. Seedhouse, Clifford Street, Ibrox, Glasgow.

Except for the last two years at the High School, the whole of his school life was passed in Bellahouston Academy. At the age of 17 he became an apprentice engineer with Messrs P & W Maclellan. After passing through the various departments he was appointed assistant to one of the departmental managers. Private Seedhouse was a lad of very lovable disposition. He was fond of athletics, especially boating and swimming and was a member of Cartha Athletic Club.

On the outbreak of war he enlisted in A Company, 9th Highland Light Infantry. After training in Glasgow and Dunfermline he went to France with the first contingent of his regiment in November 1914 and was soon moved up to the front. The rigours of active service in the first winter of the war caused his removal to a hospital in France, from which he was transferred to Leicester Military Hospital.

Pneumonia supervened and he died in Leicester Military Hospital on 17th December 1914 at the age of 23.

He was buried in Leicester with military honours.
