Child's winning card will spread Christmas cheer

Published: 18 December 2015

Lauryn Laughlin (9) from St Fillan's Primary School created the winning Christmas card in a competition the Lord Provost set for schools in her Linn ward.

Lauryn's drawing of a Christmas tree Santa with a Clyde hairstyle captured the heart of the Lord Provost. The image will be used in her official Christmas card.

The Lord Provost sends Christmas cards to dignitaries and others across the world including Her Majesty the Queen.

The Lord Provost said: "I really liked Lauryn's colourful drawing and the way she incorporated Clyde, our Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games mascot into her design.

"It really is a standout card with words that perfectly sum up the sentiments of Christmas. Lauryn is a truly deserving winner."

The card says "Glasgow wishes you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."

A total of four primary schools were invited to take part. Three runners up James McEwan of Castleton Primary, Noah Musueni of John Paul II Primary and Abi Buckley of St Bartholomew's Primary were commended for their cards.

The Lord Provost presented Lauryn and the runners up with a gift voucher from the Art Store, a goodie bag and a selection box in the City Chambers.
