STV Glasgow hosts schools' Christmas carol spectacular

Published: 18 December 2015

The festive celebration will start at 9am (repeated at 1pm and 6pm) on STV Glasgow, with talented youngsters from over 25 Glasgow schools performing traditional carols and Christmas favourites such as Unto Us A Child is Born, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Jingle Bell Rock.

Channel editor, Paul Hughes said:  "This fantastic project started last year and once again we've had a tremendous response from schools across Glasgow. The kids have done a brilliant job and I hope families all over the city will switch on to watch their children perform on television on Christmas Day - what better soundtrack to their festivities?"

Mary McNulty, head teacher of St Roch's Primary School, said: "Our signing choir had an amazing time recording their songs in the studio.  The choir is helping to bring all our pupils together - regardless of their hearing ability - and we are so grateful for the opportunities they are experiencing.  The fact they will be appearing on this special broadcast is an additional Christmas gift for us all.'

Olga Zurakowska, P7 pupil at St Roch's Primary School, said: "It is fun singing.  We get to go on trips including singing for STV Glasgow and we sing with our friends.  My favourite time when we are in the choir is when we get to sing Christmas songs."

Bailie Liz Cameron, Executive member for Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning, said: "What a truly wonderful partnership this is between STV Glasgow and the council.  We have such talented young people and I love the fact their beautiful singing voices will be blasting out in houses across the city."
