Glasgow's Lord Provost has invited George Clooney to her record-breaking Burns Supper
Lord Provost Sadie Docherty met the Hollywood A-lister at the recent Scottish Business Awards in Edinburgh where he was a keynote speaker. She was a guest of City Building LLP, nominated for Employer of the Year category.
The Lord Provost, part of a select line-up to meet the actor, took the opportunity to gift him a bottle of her special reserve whisky. He also signed another bottle for her to auction at her forthcoming Burns Supper which will be held at the Hilton Hotel on Friday 22 January.
The Lord Provost said: "He was absolutely fantastic. What he said was marvellous. I was very impressed. A lovely man."
A long-time fan, the Lord Provost admitted she had watched him since his days in hospital drama ER.
"I've got to be careful, because there might be a fall-out with my husband, but Saturday night with George was essential viewing," she said.
The Lord Provost also handed newly-wed Mr Clooney a letter formally inviting him and his wife to her Burns Supper. She also asked the couple to consider attending the 2017 event at which he and his wife could give the Toast to the Lassies and the Reply.
In the letter the Lord Provost's explains how her Burns Supper, officially recognised as the largest in the world last year, brings together people from business, entertainment and politics across the city, and beyond, to celebrate the works of Robert Burns.
