Hollybrook Academy Radio Station Launch

Hollybrook Academy pupils and staff have been planning the creation of their school radio station for a number of months now and wanted to celebrate getting 'on air' in style and with members of the local community.

Bailie Liz Cameron, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning was joined by local MSP and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on the day to officially open the newly kitted out hi-tec radio station.

The station - set up with grant funding from The Chamber of Commerce - has been made possible by the determination and hard work of the pupils.

Working in partnerships with local businesses including Sunny Govan Radio and the BBC, the pupils and staff have been learning new skills and tackling technical equipment to get their station up and running.

The station will be a resource for the whole school community and become embedded in the curriculum.

It will help support pupils' literacy, communication and technical and language skills with the aim of having an impact on the pupils' confidence and employability pathways.

As Bailie Liz Cameron explains: "Hollbrook Academy supports pupils with additional needs - many who can struggle with language and communication and the creation of the new radio station and production of shows will play a major role in addressing some of these barriers."
