Lord Provost Pledges Support for Armed Forces Day

Glasgow's Lord Provost Sadie Docherty, in her role as Lord Lieutenant, will lead the city's Armed Forces Day celebrations in George Square on Saturday 25 June.

The Lord Lieutenant will take the salute at the march past the Cenotaph at 1.15pm joined by senior military including Rear Admiral Mark Beverstock, Major General Nick Ashmore, Squadron Leader Archie McCallum, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Minister for the MoD Philip Dunne.

Lord Lieutenant Sadie Docherty said: "Glasgow's Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to let the incredibly brave and professional men and women in our armed forces know how much we appreciate them. 

"It's also a chance for our citizens to demonstrate their pride in our military personnel and our veterans. Inevitably too, our thoughts stray to those far from home, serving in some of the toughest places on earth."

Rear Admiral Beverstock said: "The support of Glasgow is very much appreciated by all those who serve in her Majesty's Armed Forces and indeed one could add, Lord Provost, that your support makes our lives miles better."

The Lowland Band will lead the parade which leaves Holland Street at 1pm, followed by serving Royal Navy, Army and RAF personnel, as well as cadets from all three services and veterans.

Other attractions will include the Kennedy Cupcakes, the Ayrshire band the Waterfront, Glasgow's That Swing Sensation, vintage jeeps and other displays.
