The free festival will have a range of activities for families and people of all ages, including health walks around Glasgow Green, outdoor games, free bike repairs, taster sessions for adapted bikes, free health check-ups, music, face-painting, arts and crafts, with the council's Avenues team available to provide updates on the development of these city centre public realm projects.

Wheeling can be defined as anything from cycling to using a wheelchair or pushing a pram or buggy.

People can drop into the Festival on the day between 11am - 3pm on 11 May.  In the two weeks after the main event, the Festival will continue with theme walks across the city, including history and heritage strolls, a teddy bear's picnic for young children and longer hikes - booking is  required.

Local artists Walker & Bromwich have been working with local schools and communities to prepare a Festival Procession.

Information on the Festival is available at: Walking and Wheeling Festival (arcgis.com).

The Glasgow Walking & Wheeling Festival is being organised by the Glasgow Avenues Programme in partnership with Glasgow Life, Sustrans and is supported by a number of organisations who are volunteering to deliver the event.

Councillor Angus Millar, Convener for Climate and Transport at Glasgow City Council, said: "The Walking & Wheeling Festival will offer lots of fun and interesting activities to take part in next month, and at the Glasgow Green event on 11 May, there will be the chance to find out more about what is being done in Glasgow city centre and beyond to make it easier for people who walk or wheel to get around our streets."

Caroline Austin, Engagement Officer for Sustrans, said: "Walking and wheeling are great ways to get around and explore your local area, and even to get into the city centre! Leave the stress of the car at home and improve your physical health and overall wellbeing. We strongly encourage everyone to join us at Glasgow Green on 11 May and take part in all the fun activities on offer."
