Find out more about plans for Renfrew Bridge

Published: 5 December 2016

An event at Yoker Community Campus today (5 December, 11am - 7pm) offers local people and businesses the opportunity to provide their views on a major infrastructure project which will deliver a new opening bridge across the Clyde, linking the communities of Renfrew, Yoker and Clydebank.

Renfrewshire Council's City Deal project team will be holding a number of public engagement events at the beginning of December, to provide information about proposals for the Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside (CWRR) project. This project is part of the wider Glasgow City Region City Deal which will see 20 major infrastructure projects across the City Region.

Delivered through a £1.13bn infrastructure fund, supported by the UK Government, the Scottish Government and the eight local authorities of the Clyde Valley, the projects will bring significant economic benefits and job opportunities to communities.

The CWRR proposals include a new 'opening' bridge across the Clyde linking the communities of Renfrew, Yoker and Clydebank, and providing improved access to employment, education, health and leisure locations. Proposals also include new roads and cycle routes, aimed at opening up access to development sites.

People will be able to find out more about CWRR at public events in Clydebank, Yoker, Paisley and Renfrew, as well as having the opportunity to provide their views on a further Renfrewshire Council City Deal project: The Glasgow Airport Investment Area (GAIA):  the realignment of Abbotsinch Road, a new bridge across the White Cart, and new cycle routes, all  aimed at improving connections between the Westway, Inchinnan and Airport Business Parks and as an enabler for the delivery of a world class business and commercial offering centred around the airport.

Information about another Glasgow City Region City Deal project, The Glasgow Airport Access Project (AAP) will also be available. The AAP will bring a new direct rail connection between Glasgow Central Station, Paisley Gilmour Street Station and Glasgow Airport.

This series of events follows an initial round of consultation with local communities which the project team undertook in May and June of this year. Feedback from those events has helped to inform the refined proposals which will be presented at December's events.

People attending the events will have the opportunity to meet the project team and ask questions regarding the projects. A short survey about the proposals will also be available at the events and online (www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/citydeal) to ensure everyone can provide feedback about the projects.
