Lennon Costello (9) from John Paul II Primary School created the winning Christmas card in a competition the Lord Provost set for schools in her Linn ward.

Lennon's drawing of a snowman was inspired by his Auntie Allison McLaughlin's house which is festooned with festive decorations. Lennon said: "There's a snowman in the living room."

Allison explained: "I love Christmas and there are decorations everywhere - outside and in. They go up straight after Halloween."

Lennon's smiling snowman captured the heart of the Lord Provost. The image will be used in her official Christmas card.

The Lord Provost met Lennon today at the City Chambers and congratulated him on his winning card, as well as the five competition runners up whom she presented with prizes.

The Lord Provost said: "I really liked Lennon's bold and bright drawing.  It is very seasonal and children love this time of year especially if there's an opportunity to make a real snowman. It really is a standout card with the snowman wishing everyone a merry Christmas."

The Lord Provost sends more than 500 Christmas cards to dignitaries and others across the world including Her Majesty the Queen.

A total of eight primary schools were invited to take part. The runners up, who were highly commended, are:  Kiera Anderson (9), St Fillan's Primary, Abbie O'Donnell (9) St Mirin's Primary, Eve Morrison (9), Miller Primary, David Tommaso (9), Croftfoot Primary and Mhairade Deery (9), St Bartholomew's Primary.

The Lord Provost presented all the children with Cass Art store gift vouchers, a selection box and a goodie bag.
