Guidance for -Medical Exemption For Drivers

A Please be advised that you are not exempt from your duties as specified in the Equality Act 2010 until the outcome of your request is determined and you have been notified of the decision in writing.

B When the Licensing Authority receives your application for exemption you will be referred for a medical assessment by the Council's Medical Assessment provider.

C If granted, the Licensing Authority will only issue you with a temporary exemption.  If you wish to be considered for another exemption when you renew your licence, you will need to submit another application form and be reassessed by the Council's Medical Assessment provider.

D After the Licensing Authority has considered the recommendations made by the Council's Medical Assessment provider, a decision will be made whether you will receive an exemption certificate or not, what it will cover and how long the exemption will last for.

E If an exemption is granted, you will be issued with an Exemption Certificate.  This Exemption Certificate must be displayed at all times on the licensed vehicle (either licensed taxi or licensed private hire car) so it can be read by passengers before they enter the licensed vehicle.

F If you have not been granted an exemption and you fail to fulfil your duties as specified in the Equality Act 2010 you may be subject to prosecution
