Deep Clean Teams
Deep clean teams operate throughout the city to help maintain pavements, pathways and roads and form part of our street cleansing service.
We have a rolling programme that ensures a deep clean service is delivered in all 23 council wards over the course of a year with teams targeting stubborn grime, weeds, over grown vegetation and hard to reach litter. The deep cleans team can also deal with fly-tipping, fly-posting and the removal of other contaminants that can harbour pests or pose hygiene risks.
Last year 1121 of Glasgow's 6100 streets were serviced by a deep clean team, which will help extend the life of infrastructure by preventing the build-up of weeds and other vegetation and removing damaging substances such as oil.
The locations targeted by the deep clean teams are guided by consultation with communities through their community council and other community groups, reports from the public and on-going monitoring by our own staff.
If a wider range of issues are affecting a neighbourhood are identified, the deep clean teams will work alongside other council teams, Neighbourhood Improvement Volunteers, Community Payback and a variety of community and residents groups to tackle the problems affecting local environments. These weeks of action bring together council services such as environmental health, commercial waste enforcement, roads and lighting and graffiti removal to intensive environmental improvements in local neighbourhoods.
The deep clean teams also link with the council family's property services to help address environmental issues at vacant council land and around shop units and industrial estates.
If you are concerned about environmental issues in your neighbourhood you can report these to the council via the MyGlasgow phone app, by contacting the @MyGlasgowCC social media accounts or by reporting incidents through the council's website.
If you interesting in volunteering in support of your local environment, you can find out more about Neighbourhood Improvement Volunteering via this link.
