Flourishing Molendinar
Flourishing Molendinar is a project to improve walking, wheeling and cycling connections in the vicinity of Molendinar Burn in the north east of Glasgow. Flourishing Molendinar is part of changes happening across Glasgow.
These changes are guided by the Glasgow Transport Strategy and the Glasgow Active Travel Strategy. The aim is that in a few years then Flourishing Molendinar will connect to a continuous cycle route all the way to Glasgow City Centre.
Early stages of the project were led by St Paul's Youth Forum between 2022 and 2022 with support from Sustrans and Glasgow City Council, more details can be found on their webpage.
This work investigated how changes to the streets could make it safer and easier for people to walk and cycle in Provanmill and Blackhill. St Paul's Youth Forum spoke to as many people and organisations as possible to develop concepts plans.
Concept Plans
The concept plans had the following important components:
- Improving the cycle lanes on Provanmill Road to enable more people to use them.
- Extending the cycle lanes along Royston Road to connect with St Philomena's Primary School using high quality permanent materials.
- Closing Langdale Street to through traffic between Greenrig Street and Lochgreen Street to create a quieter neighbourhood environment away from the main roads
- Raised tables at side streets to make it easier to cross the roads.
Glasgow City Council have now developed these designs and are looking to start construction from Autumn 2024.
