Self Build

Contact Housing

What is it?

Self Build is where you organise the construction of your home yourself.  You can project manage your build with sub-contractors or use one contractor for a turnkey solution.   This does not mean you have to do all the physical work yourself, it's your choice.

The way Self Build differs from mainstream housing is that it is People-led rather than Developer-led.

Aims of the Programme

The aim of this programme is to provide more housing choice and to encourage the people of Glasgow to stay within the city, rather than move away to find the homes they need and can afford.  Self Build can provide access to affordable, flexible accommodation which meets individual needs.

Following the success of our pilot project in Maryhill, we wish to make more serviced plots available across the city and as a result we have created a Self Build Programme.

How can I get involved?

If you are interested in getting involved please contact us by Email to register on our Self Build Register.  Once you have registered you will be able to attend future self build information events and view any plot releases. We aim to release enough plots to meet the demand for self build.

We are also keen to encourage Collective Self Build (where a group get together to build their homes) and Co-Housing (an intentional, mutually-supportive community with shared communal space).  Both of these are other examples of People-led housing.
