Service Impact

Due to Storm Eowyn, a red weather warning covering Glasgow has been issued by the Met Office for Friday, 24 January 2025. Strong winds are predicted to cause dangerous conditions and lead to significant disruption across the city. Therefore, some council services will be impacted.

Please see below for the latest information on council services (updates to follow):

Education

All schools and nurseries will be closed tomorrow (Friday, 24 January 2025).

Your child's school will provide further updates directly to you.

Cleansing

All waste services will be suspended on Friday, January 24.

Kerbside Collections

If you receive a kerbside bin collection, please do not present your bin for collection on Friday, January 24.

All bins intended for a kerbside collection should be stored as securely as possible until the storm passes.

Anyone due to receive a kerbside bin collection this Friday should present their bin on the pavement for collection on Saturday, January 25.

Household Waste & Recycling Centres

All household waste and recycling centres will be closed on Friday, January 24.

Residential & Homecare (HSCP)

Our Home Care Services will be affected on Friday, 24 January.

This will result in reduced visits, and Home Care services will need to prioritise those who are most vulnerable in the community. We will do our best to minimise disruption; however, the safety of our staff is important. It may not be possible to inform you of changes in advance, the impact is expected to cause disruptions throughout the day.

Please only call our home care line in emergencies, as lines will be busy. We would appreciate any support from families and neighbours to check on any vulnerable neighbours during this period.

Registrars

Appointments to register births, deaths and stillbirths will continue to take place online.

All Marriage and Civil Partnership ceremonies due to take place on Friday, 24 January will be rescheduled.

Glasgow Life

Glasgow Life venues

All Glasgow Life venues will not open on Friday, 24 January.

We expect to welcome you back on Saturday morning at normal opening times and will issue any further updates required via Glasgow Life social media.

Celtic Connections

All Celtic Connections performances on Friday, 24 January will be postponed.

As it stands, we expect venues to re-open and for all shows to go ahead on Saturday, 25 January.

Information on new dates for postponed shows will be announced as soon as we have details. We will be in touch as soon as we can with more details for ticket holders for Friday's shows.

We will keep you updated on Saturday on Celtic Connections social media, and hope to welcome audiences back to the festival across the weekend.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our citizens but everyone's safety is paramount in these circumstances.

Please stay safe, plan ahead and follow the advice on the Met Office website.
