Building Standards and Public Safety has the following responsibilities:
- to secure the health, safety, welfare and convenience of persons in and about buildings and others who may be affected by buildings or matters connected with buildings;
- to further the conservation of fuel, power ant to further the achievement of sustainable development; and
- for ancillary functions such as Street Naming and Numbering within the City.
Building Regulations
The Building Regulations are mandatory, the choice of how to comply with them lies with the building owner. If the guidance in the Technical Handbooks is followed in full then this should indicate that the building regulations have been complied with.
Public Safety
We also have input to the Licensing Board, the Licensing Committee, Safety at Sports Grounds and Raised Structures.

Early consultation with the Service on any of these matters is recommended as this can reduce possible difficulties later in the processes.
