Hyndland: Clarence Drive

Following an independent review (PDF, 6 MB)(opens new window) in September 2021 which considered whether long-term sustainability and active travel benefits could be realised by retaining measures - all Spaces for People cycle lanes, including the one noted below will become permanent.

Measure(s): | Installation of a soft segregated cycle route, re-lining works and built out footway areas at 7 bus stops. |
Purpose: | To facilitate physical distancing and enable alternative travel / active travel options to help manage demand on public transport during COVID-19. |
Type of Infrastructure: | Convert existing advisory uni-directional cycle lanes on Clarence Drive to mandatory, and install soft segregation. |
Detail: | Access to designated disabled parking bays, permit/metered parking bays and loading bays will be maintained. Parking/loading restrictions currently applicable (at designated, peak times only) on Clarence Drive (between Hyndland Road and Airlie Street, and Hyndland Road and the railway bridge after Hayburn Lane), will change to no waiting or loading at any time, to accommodate the segregated cycle lanes. |
Timelines: | The temporary works will be in place for a minimum period of 10 weeks and will be reviewed in line with the Scottish Government's COVID-19: Framework for Decision Making - Scotland's Route Map through and out of the crisis. |
