Active Travel: Details of Spaces for People Infrastructure Delivered
This workstream created a number of pop-up cycle lanes - offering around 40km of additional dedicated cycling space to encourage active travel for everyday journeys and reduce demand on public transport.
Other related initiatives include the provision of cycle parking at 50 new locations, such as in George Square and an expansion of Glasgow's popular cycle hire scheme.
Following an independent review (PDF, 6 MB)(opens new window) in September 2021 which considered whether long-term sustainability and active travel benefits could be realised by retaining Spaces for People measures, all pop-up cycle lanes are now in the process of becoming permanent. In most cases, a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) will be required to do so.
Details of all Spaces for People TROs proposed by the council (current and completed) can be found here.
