A Private Hire Car Licence is required to operate a private hire car licensed by this Authority.

Overprovision Policy

Update May 2024 - Please note that the Licensing Authority has reached the figure of 3450 licensed private hire cars. When the number of private hire car licences reaches 3450 there will be an overprovision of private hire car services in city of Glasgow, and as such at that time there will be a rebuttable presumption against the grant of further private hire car licences. This will be known as "Overprovision Policy for Private Hire Car Licence "

All applications considered against the Overprovision Policy for Private Hire Car Licence will be determined by the Licensing and Regulatory Committee. Please ensure you check your junk/spam email box regularly as the citation email from the Licensing Authority in relation to your Committee hearing date, may automatically go to that inbox. If you have received a citation please arrange to be in attendance in person at this meeting as the Committee will determine your application. Please note that failure to attend the meeting will result in the Committee considering your application in your absence.
